Saint Michael School Announces Move to New Location

and Board of Governance Appointments

School Moves into Former Hudson Catholic High School Location and Makes Plans for New Programs and Offerings

Hudson, Massachusetts (July 23, 2009) – Saint Michael School today announces its move into the former Hudson Catholic High School building, the appointment of a new Board of Governance, and plans for diverse academic programs and offerings. Founded in 1918, this will be the second location for this elementary school, providing education for children in preschool through eighth grade.

This strategic move provides the school with increased space, state-of-the-art science laboratories, new gymnasium, and additional facilities that the students at Saint Michael School will be able to take advantage of.

“We are very pleased to have the opportunity to move into the Hudson Catholic High School location, and we will work hard to preserve the tradition and spirit of Hudson Catholic as we move into this new space and new era for Saint Michael School,” said Patricia Delaney, principal, Saint Michael School. “We are making plans for many new exciting programs and opportunities for our students. One such endeavor, will draw on the skills and talents of our parents and local community supporters by involving them in the development and implementation of specialized courses and teaching programs that bring the real- world experiences of these adults and their professions to the children. The middle school curriculum is being restructured with the departmentalization of grades five through eight. Each teacher focuses on a specific subject matter and the grades will rotate through their classrooms with increasing levels of offerings and challenges for each subsequent grade level. We also plan to offer new after school clubs, new school/community performances, and new classes (such as Latin) to the middle school students. This is an exciting time for our school and there is a lot of work ahead over the summer months. This school is known for its sense of family and commitment, and I know we will excel to new heights as we embark upon this new era together.”

Unique to Saint Michael School is the appointment of a Board of Governance consisting of school parents and parish and community leaders. In addition, the school has formed new Finance, Marketing and Development Committees, all staffed by parent and community volunteers with expertise in these areas. These groups will offer strategic guidance and support in an effort to augment the school’s offerings and expand enrollment.

Saint Michael School has been chosen to be a representative group of Catholic Schools for the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) testing, which will take place in early 2010. The School is one of only three schools from the Archdiocese of Boston chosen. NAEP is regarded as the gold standard for educational research because it is among the most valid, objective, and inclusive educational studies conducted on a regularly recurring basis. This is the second time that Saint Michael School has been given this honor.

In addition to the new move, programs, and honors, Saint Michael School is pleased to announce that its middle school history teacher, Cathy Chaves of Hudson, Massachusetts, has been honored with two fellowships including a fellowship in US History at Mount Vernon Virginia and the other, also in American History, is at Lowell Mills.
